Return To: Clocks
Job Wilbour was born in Newport on July 18, 1802, and died there on May 3, 1873. He was a clockmaker, watchmaker, and jeweller who had a shop in Queen Street and later Washington Square in Newport, Rhode Island, from 1823 to 1873.

He is best known for his association with the prolific clockmaker David Williams, under whom he served his apprenticeship before becoming a successful craftsman in his own right; he married Williams' daughter Amy in 1827. Following the death of Williams in 1823, Wilbour established his own presence in Newport’s business district.

Wilbour utilized the distinctive "A-frame" movement design, originally developed by David Williams; it is thought that Williams did this as a way to bypass Simon Willard's patent. His work is typically signed "J. B. Wilbour" or "Job Wilbour, Newport." Because their styles were so similar, many of Wilbour's pieces have been misidentified as David Williams' work.

The weight is 5lbs 13oz.
