Welch Manufacturing Co., In March 0f 1868 Elisha Welch and his son and sons-in-law formed a partnership with Solomon C. Spring of Bristol. Each deeded a factory to this operation, called Welch, Spring & co., Welch the movement shop and Spring the case shop. By 1870 the firm of Welch, Spring & Co. was employing 50 males over age 16 and no females. They produced 15,000 clocks between June of 1869 and June of 1870. There were several fires at the shops which were re-built and destroyed again in 1878. The company was in trouble and E. N. Welch Mfg. Co. bought the company in 1884. less
